abstract = "Complex Networks have been presented ubiquitously in the last
decade. As a straightforward and efficient framework to represent
agents and their relationships, several fields, from Physics to
Sociology, have taken advantage of the representation power
provided by complex networks. A particular feature inherited by
almost any real world network is the presence of groups of densely
connected nodes, named modules, clusters or communities. The
community organization of the network can provide valuable
information about the network, such as the network domain and its
organization. In this work, we present a novel model based on
coupled Kuramoto oscillators with positive and negative links.
Opposing to prior applications of coupled Kuramoto oscillators to
detect communities, here we propose a conditional negative
coupling that depends on the topological features of selected
nodes. By using this new negative coupling, we obtain a more
efficient model without degrading the community detection accuracy
since, at the dynamical equilibrium, the oscillators will not be
all at the same phase as if the standard Kuramoto model is
applied, nevertheless, within modules, the phases will tend to be
very similar, which allows us to easily detect the existing
modules in the complex network.",
